World Fest is a program that is administered by Arts Midwest and every three-years it brings international ensembles to one city in each of the nine midwestern states. Those programs last over three school calendar years; for a total of six different residencies over that three-year period. Currently, in Marinette – Menominee they are in installment two. Kim Brooks Volunteer Coordinator of World Fest says, “this band is made up of indigenous folks from Alaska who blend their indigenous traditions of music and dance with contemporary styling.”
Brooks says, “the week is filled with school performances and then on Saturday, February 25th at 6pm the Community Concert is at Theatre on the Bay.”
The visiting group Pamyua has toured worldwide. Their performances honor and share the indigenous Inuit cultural traditions and stories of their heritage through ceremony and songs passed down through generations.
