Well over 150 Town of Peshtigo residents were in attendance for the public hearing regarding the proposed creation of a Town of Peshtigo Utility District last evening at Little River Country Club. In attendance was the full Town Board, Strand Engineering, Municipal Attorney, and the WDNR by zoom. The presentation, delivered by Strand Engineering, addressed why the Town would create a Utility District, the difference between a Utility District and a Water Utility, and what the District Boundaries include. Ben Wood of Strand and Associates says, “what would a utility district cost upon creation? Nothing. No local tax dollars have been used or plan to be used. The utility district will be used to receive grant funds and account for any expenses.”
Alyssa Sellwood from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says, “in regards to the point of entry whole house treatment systems; we have definitely indicated that that was not our preferred long-term solution for people.”
The District Boundary would include municipal water routes from Marinette and Peshtigo, adjacent properties to service routes, properties within the WDNR PFAS Contamination Investigation Area, and Adjacent properties to proposed water main or investigation area. If a utility district were to be approved, it would require a town board resolution, a town vote, and would be governed by State Statute. At this time, the Town of Peshtigo is merely seeking input from its residents and answering their questions and listening to their concerns when it comes to a Utility District.
