Memorial Day is Monday, May 29th. This holiday was established to honor members of the military who died in service during deployment overseas and in training or service in the United States. The holiday originated during the American Civil War, when citizens placed flowers on the graves of those who had been killed in battle. In appreciation for this day, the Menominee American Legion Post 146 has coordinated activities in Menominee. U.P. 11th District Commander Tom Chernetski says, “Menominee is going to be busy as heck on Memorial Day! We start out at 7o’clock in the morning at Birch Creek, where the Am Vets will be doing a short service at the cemetery.”
Chernetski says, “we hold these services to remember the military who sacrificed.”
The public is invited to all events in Menominee, beginning at 7am at the American Legion Post 146. For a complete list of events, go to their Facebook page, Menominee American Legion.
