In a special Menominee Council meeting last evening, it was up to the council to decide whether to uncap the marijuana licenses. While, for the past two years, the city has been in litigation over additional licenses winning and won. Mayor Jean Stegeman says, “now we are suggesting to ignore community desire, and the investment of Rize and Firestation, and allow anyone who qualifies a recreational license.”
Stegeman says, “I am deeply disappointed in the way we have treated Rize and Firestation. It doesn’t seem to me to be a very honorable thing to do to allow somebody to come to your aid and defend you and spend money defending you in a lawsuit and turn around and pull the rug out from underneath them after its settled and we’ve won.”
While there was little debate, it went to vote. The council voted in favor of uncapping the marijuana retail licenses 5 to 3.
