Did you know Menominee is home to the nation’s oldest Scouting event? For the past 74 consecutive years, the Bay Lakes Council of the Boy Scouts of America has sponsored the Bay Jammer in Downtown Menominee. The storied tradition continues the weekend of July 14th thru the 16th. Bay Jammer Event Chairperson Telly Villas says, “it’s really a day where high schoolers and early college-age kids can come to Menominee for three days of competition and socialization, hangout, and they compete in 18 different events.”
Villas says, “come down and check it out. I think it’s a really neat event and I don’t think people realize how special it is.”
The Bay Lakes Council Museum will be in town with a historic Sea Scout/Bay Jammer display Friday evening and continuing Saturday at the Yacht Club. Businesses in Menominee and Marinette are also asked to get into the Bay Jammer spirit by placing “welcome” messages in their windows and on their display boards. For more information about Bay Jammer, you can find them on Facebook.
