In an era where school districts and school bus companies around the country are facing significant driver shortages, Menominee School District, is no exception. School bus driver positions have been hard to fill, largely because of the job’s expectations and low pay. But since COVID, the problem has reached crisis levels. Menominee School Board President Derek Butler says, “bus driving is a unique position because of the split shift. You come in early in the morning, they drive the kids to school, and then they kind of have that lull between the afternoon shift.”
Butler says, “Menominee Area Public Schools does have its own bus garage and we upkeep and maintain our own bus routes and yes, we have our own busses, and we also employ those bus drivers.”
The Menominee Area Public Schools also offers, for free, training for interested bus drivers to obtain their CDL License. Anyone who is interested in driving school bus for Menominee Area Public Schools can call the District Office at 906-863-9951 for additional information.
