October 14th, is National Period Action Day. This day serves as a Global Day of Advocacy and celebrates youth activists fighting for menstrual equality, promotes calls for action, and raises awareness about the impacts of period poverty that occur every day nationwide. Going into its second year, Bellin’s ‘No Girl Without Period Campaign’ committee is highlighting that 1 in 4 girls nationally do not have access to adequate feminine hygiene products. The inadequacy of these products will often lead to depression, shame, anxiety, urogenital infections, skin irritations, and can lead to school truancy. Cheryl Reisner Bellin Lab Assistant and Chairperson for the No Girl Without Period Campaign says, “this year we’ve got thirty volunteers. That’s a ten person increase from last year, so we’re really excited to have so many enthusiastic men and women on our Bellin volunteer team.”
Karen Reiswicz Bellin Electronic Medical Electrician and No Girl Without Period Volunteer says, “let’s take action to end Period Poverty…PERIOD.”
