School transportation may increase student outcomes by provided a reliable and safe means of getting to and from school. Menominee School District Superintendent Drew Buyarski says, “This has been a long time in the works. We had run into some issues where we’ve had some breakdowns. Our fleet is just past it’s useful aga. We needed to do something that would ensure the safety of our children.”
Buyarski says, “just comparing what Choice Transportation is going to be charging us and they are planning on using are dispatch, mechanic, and our Director of Operations and reimbursing us for those. Basically, what it boils down to is that the district will be saving about $30,000 over what we would normally do in a year.”
Buyarski remarks that the current fleet at the school is significantly run-down and very old. Just to pass the state inspection next year, the Director of Operations thinks that we’d have to pump thousands-of-dollars into these busses just to get them passing; these busses are 15 to 17 years old already.
