The Powers of the Mayor when it comes to committee chairs was a point of discussion at last week’s Menominee Finance Committee Meeting

How much power does the City of Menominee Mayor Casey Hoffman really have? Especially when it comes to chairing a committee. Currently, and for the last four months or more, Council Person and Chairperson of the Finance Committee Donna Marineau has felt bullied by Mayor Hoffman because he wants her removed as Chairperson of the Finance Committee. Last week’s meeting, which started without Mayor Hoffman due to needing a restroom break, began to keep on schedule. When he returned to the table he says, “you started without me! One clarification, as a matter of technicality, for the rules of order.”

Council Member and Finance Committee Member Bill Plemel says, “it seems vindictive. Also, it’s been the practice of the City of Menominee to appoint but not retract. That’s the tradition.” City Manager Brett Botbyl.

Council Member and Finance Committee Member Joe Dulak made the recommendation to contact City Attorney Celello and get the correct information in writing before tonight’s council meeting at 6pm. Also, from a reputable source, this isn’t the first time Mayor Hoffman has attempted to remove chairpersons from their positions.
