Marinette County Highway Seasonal Weight Restrictions

Starting at noon on Friday, March 7th, Marinette County will implement seasonal weight restrictions on its highways, which will remain until further notice. This measure aims to safeguard the highways from damage, with enforcement by the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol. These spring restrictions are crucial for ensuring the economic sustainability and structural integrity of the roads, as they are vulnerable to deterioration when the ground beneath becomes soft and unstable from thawing frost. The restrictions specify a weight limit of 6 tons per single axle and 10 tons per tandem axle group, with a maximum gross vehicle weight of 28 tons. During this period, all non-divisible overweight permits will be temporarily suspended, though limited permits to exceed these limits might be available under specific circumstances. Certain vehicles are exempt from these restrictions, including highway maintenance vehicles, school buses, emergency vehicles, and haulers of milk, seed potatoes, livestock, perishable foods, and solid waste. However, this advisory does not apply to town roads; for those, individuals should directly contact the relevant town authorities to ascertain their weight restriction policies.
