The Marshfield Clinic Research Institute is inviting Wisconsin residents to participate in the Tick Inventory via Citizen Science (TICS) by submitting ticks found outdoors in 2024. This initiative aims to identify tick species in the state, assess the risk of tick-borne diseases, and understand exposure patterns. In 2024, over 6,000 ticks were collected, with the majority being American dog ticks and deer ticks. The program also detected ticks from warmer climates, such as the lone star tick and the brown dog tick. Collection kits are available at various locations, and participants can track their submissions online using a unique ID. New survey questions are included in the kits to gather information on tick avoidance and disease history. For more details or to request a kit, contact tics@marshfieldclinic.org or call 1-715-389-7796 ext. 16462.
