The usual slate of Memorial Day Observances will be held on Monday in the Twin Cities. In Menominee, from 7-10am Breakfast will be served at the American Legion Post. At 7am there will be a Memorial Service at the Birch Creek Cemetery. At 8:45am the Parade will march from the Band shell to Veterans Park where a Memorial Service will be held at 9am. At 10am there will be a Memorial Service at Riverside Cemetery.
The Marinette Legion Post 39 has organized events for Memorial Day to honor service members from the Civil War to the present who have given their lives in defense of their country. Services will begin at 8am Monday at Glenwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery with a short service, followed by a rifle salute by the Honor Guard Firing Squad Party from Company ‘A’ 20 Year Club, followed by Taps. A rifle salute and taps will be part of a ceremony at 8:30am at Woodlawn Cemetery on Pierce Avenue. The main ceremony begins at 10:45am at the Grand Army of the Republic Plot at Forest Home Cemetery on Mary Street. Speakers will include: Marinette Mayor Steve Genisot and Special Guest Speaker Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Rich Rafter. The Marinette High School Band will play musical selections. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in the WJ Jones Auditorium at Marinette High School.
