In Iron Mountain yesterday, 43-year-old Chad Olson of Vulcan, a former Norway Police Officer, was arraigned in the 95B District Court on felony and misdemeanor charges. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel announced that the charges stem from alleged misconduct during Olson’s tenure in law enforcement.
Olson, who served as a Norway Police Officer until December 20, 2024, is accused of exploiting his position to access personal contact information of women via police databases. Reports allege he used that information to engage in flirtation and gain favor, leading to one sexual encounter at the police station while on duty. Further allegations claim Olson illegally purchased a pistol without a license after resigning, using his MCOLES number despite lacking police authority.
He faces multiple charges:
- Two counts of Misconduct in Office, each carrying a maximum sentence of 5 years. One count involves malfeasance related to the alleged sexual conduct on duty, while the other concerns misfeasance tied to misuse of law enforcement databases.
- One count of Pistols – False Statement on Sales Record, a felony punishable by up to 4 years.
- One count of Purchasing a Pistol without a License, a misdemeanor carrying a maximum penalty of 90 days.
Attorney General Nessel praised the investigative efforts of the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police, stating, “Law enforcement officers take an oath to protect and serve our communities with integrity. Those who commit serious breaches of duty must be held accountable.”
Chad Olson is scheduled to appear next in the 95B District Court before Judge Julie Lacost on June 26th.
