This is a warning from Michigan’s Attorney General Dana Nessel about a new scam targeting residents. Scammers are pretending to be from the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Team, even making your caller ID show the official “Consumer Protection Division” and a real department number. They claim your credit has been “flagged” and threaten to shut down your accounts unless you pay immediately. But the Attorney General’s office says it never calls to demand money or resolve flagged accounts over the phone.
If you get one of these calls, hang up right away. Never share your personal or banking information. If you’re concerned or want to report a scam, contact the Consumer Protection Team directly at 877-765-8388. Stay alert and protect yourself from fraud.
