A judge has issued a preliminary injunction denying Mackinac Island control over ferry rates. Ferry owner Hoffman Marine sued the island in March following the rejection by the Mackinac Island City Council of their proposal to increase the fares. The island countersued, saying Hoffman Marine had monopolized the ferry business by purchasing all three lines serving the island. Hoffman Marine wants to increase fees by two dollars and currently charges 38 for adults and 26 for kids on Shepler’s and 48 for adults and 36 for kids on its MIFC boats.
