One person was taken to the hospital after a fire broke out last Wednesday morning at LeTourneau Plastic, Inc. in Oconto. Fire crews were called just after 9 a.m. to the plant on Mott Street after a water flow alarm sounded. Employees said a fire had started in a machine, but they were able to hold it off until the sprinkler system kicked in and doused the flames. Everyone in the building evacuated safely before firefighters arrived. Crews confirmed the fire was out, then shut off the sprinkler system to prevent more water damage. No firefighters were hurt, and the injured person was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. Authorities are still investigating the cause. Officials praised the quick action by staff and the building’s sprinkler system, which limited damage to just one machine—valued at about $500,000.
