On Sunday evening, July 20th, the Menominee Police Department responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Welcome Center. The caller claimed a masked suspect, dressed entirely in black, held them at gunpoint and stole cash and belongings. Law enforcement quickly launched an investigation, searching the area and questioning those involved. However, during follow-up interviews, the individual who made the report admitted the robbery never happened, and the story was fabricated. That person was arrested and faces charges for filing a false police report. The Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Marinette Police Department, and Menominee County 911 all assisted in the investigation.
Police are reminding residents that filing false reports diverts resources from actual emergencies and undermines public safety. Authorities stress such actions will not be tolerated.
