On August 5th, Menominee voters are being asked should the city cap marijuana permits at nine, or allow as many dispensaries as possible? Former Mayor Jean Stegeman weighed in on a video recently shared by current Mayor Casey Hoffman. In that clip, Hoffman suggested the former mayor played a role in crafting the city’s zoning maps for marijuana businesses that allows for so many dispensaries to be located in the city.
When asked if she supports a referendum to limit dispensaries, she said, absolutely. She called the current number of establishments “ridiculous.”
Alderman Bill Plemel has filed a lawsuit to prevent the August 5th vote because there are no other races on the ballot. That would likely push the referendum to the November Ballot. A hearing on that lawsuit is scheduled for Friday morning.
