Community members will gather Thursday and Friday on Stephenson Island to remember lives lost to overdose, reduce stigma, and work toward preventing future tragedies. The event, hosted by Biehl Bridges to Recovery, begins Thursday evening with an overdose memorial service from 5 to 8 p.m. Unity Hospice will provide information on navigating grief, and a guest speaker will share her personal story. Attendees can also create memorial signs to be placed on the island. To tell you more is Meghan Rutherford, CSW, project director for Biehl Bridges to Recovery.
Friday’s “Community Day” runs from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will feature bouncy houses, food trucks, a dunk tank, face painting, resource booths, and more. “That’s a time for anyone in the community to learn more about resources and have fun,” Rutherford says. The free, public event is open to all. Biehl Bridges to Recovery serves individuals in Marinette and Menominee affected by substance use disorder, offering support without requiring a medical referral.
“There is help for those struggling with addiction,” says Rutherford. “There is hope.”
