One man is dead is a shooting at a residence in Harris Township in northern Menominee County.
Michigan State Police say at approximately 12:19 Thursday morning, troopers from the Iron Mountain post responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence on County 551 in Harris Township. Troopers found a 34 year old Wilson man had been shot. Although troopers and EMS personnel attempted life-saving measures , the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
State Police say that a preliminary investigation into the shooting indicates that a physical assault between the deceased man and his domestic partner occurred before the shooting which saw the man assault another member of the household with a knife which led to him being shot. The shooting appears to be self-defense.
The Michigan State Police Marquette Crime Lab responded to the scene and processed evidence. The incident will be submitted for review to the Menominee County Prosecutor once the investigation is finalized.
The names of those involved are not being released to respect the privacy of the families.
