The Wisconsin DNR and Department of Health Services have issued new consumption advisories for ducks harvested on Green Bay, after testing revealed elevated levels of PFAS chemicals. For lower Green Bay — from Longtail Point across to Point au Sable and south to the Fox River — hunters are advised not to eat mallards at all. In the stretch from Marinette to Sturgeon Bay and south to Longtail Point, mallards should be limited to one meal per month, while wood ducks can be eaten up to once per week. Officials say the advisories are in effect immediately, just ahead of the fall hunting season. PFAS are long-lasting chemicals linked to health risks such as higher cholesterol, weakened immune response, and reduced fertility. For full details, hunters can visit the DNR’s website and check the PFAS consumption advisories page.
