One person is dead as the result of a two-vehicle crash at approximately 10:26 am Saturday in Oconto County. The accident involved a passenger car and a pickup truck towing a trailer on State Highway 22 near the intersection of Old 22 Road/CTH P, in the Town of Gillett.
A preliminary investigation revealed the truck towing a trailer, operated by a 22-year-old man from Sobieski, was traveling south on 22. An SUV driven by a 24-year-old man from Gillett, and occupied by a two-year-old child, were traveling north on 22. The SUV operated left of the centerline and came in contact with the front of the truck. Because of the impact, the truck started on fire and other motorists on the scene were able to suppress the fire and assist the driver out of the truck. The 24-year-old driver of the SUV died at the scene because of injuries sustained in the crash. Paramedics transported the two-year-old passenger to a hospital in Green Bay to treat injuries. The 22-year-old driver and lone occupant of the truck went to a hospital in Green Bay for treatment of injuries. An ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
