Menominee 4th Ward Alderman Joe Dulak is facing a recall effort, and now, a judge has cleared the way for it to move forward. Supporters of the recall pointed to concerns about a potential conflict of interest in his votes on marijuana issues. The County Election Commission reviewed the petition and, in late June, ruled the recall language valid. Dulak then appealed the decision to the Menominee County Circuit Court. On Monday, Judge Mary Barglind issued her ruling , siding with the Election Commission. The court affirmed that the recall petition language is valid and can move forward. One concern raised in the petition it claims Dulak should not have voted on marijuana-related ordinances because of his ties to State Wide Real Estate, an office that shares an address with companies linked to marijuana businesses. Petitioners argue Dulak could financially benefit from those property sales. With the court’s decision now in place, recall organizers can begin collecting signatures from 1st Ward voters. If they gather enough signatures, voters will recall Dulak.
