According to the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office, around 1:37 a.m., a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle speeding just north of Stephenson. When the driver refused to pull over, a pursuit began southbound on U.S. 41, reaching speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. As the chase entered the City of Menominee, city police deployed spike strips to safely end the pursuit. The suspect’s vehicle hit the strips, was disabled, and the driver – the only person inside – fled on foot. He was found hiding a few blocks away and taken into custody without further incident. The suspect faces multiple charges, including Fleeing and Eluding, Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The Sheriff’s Office thanks the City of Menominee Police, the Michigan State Police, and Menominee County 911 dispatchers for their help in safely ending the chase.
