The Marinette School District held its annual budget hearing Monday night, where the board spent a lengthy amount of time in closed session before reconvening. When they returned to open session, the board unanimously approved a $28.9 million budget for the upcoming school year. Finance Director Sean Kelly says state lawmakers left school equalization aid unchanged from the previous funding cycle:
As a result, the district’s tax levy rate will drop.
Last year’s rate was $6.62 per $1,000 of equalized value.
This year’s rate is $6.13 — a decrease of 49 cents.
Also Monday night, the board unanimously voted to disallow a claim filed by Anything You Want, LLC, regarding the former Garfield School property.
Someone submitted the claim in September. The board discussed the issue in closed session and took action in open session, ultimately rejecting the claim.
