The M&M Area Community Foundation is expanding opportunities for young people to step into real leadership roles. The foundation is now accepting applications for youth board members; students ages 13 to 17 from any school in Marinette or Menominee County.
Berken says youth members aren’t a new idea they’ve been part of the foundation since 1994, when the Kellogg Foundation required youth voices be included. This year, the foundation hopes to expand from one youth representative to at least two.
Youth members will attend six to seven meetings a year, either in person or virtually, and participate fully in decision-making, long-term planning, and approving new funds. Berken says the foundation works closely with students, so they feel confident stepping into a real governance role.
All students ages 13 to 17 in Marinette or Menominee counties are eligible. The one-year term includes participation in both the Board of Directors and the Youth Advisory Council.
Applications are available now at MMACF.org. Students must complete the form with a parent or guardian.
