Marinette Common Council member Doug Oitzinger says he will not seek re-election in April of 2026. Oitzinger, who represents Ward 3, made the announcement publicly. Residents interested in running for the seat can begin circulating nomination papers starting December 1st. The City Clerk’s Office can provide the required paperwork. In his statement, Oitzinger said he hopes whoever replaces him is committed to doing the work of the council and representing both Ward 3 and the entire city. He criticized what he called “rubber-stamp decision-making” by some council members and said poor choices over the years have left city streets and alleys in serious decline. Oitzinger also called the plan for a new City Hall “unnecessary,” adding he regrets voting to borrow money for the project. He claimed a small group of council members meets privately with the mayor before issues are discussed publicly. Oitzinger says while he’ll step away from the council in April, he will continue speaking out on city issues. He thanked voters for allowing him to serve for the past six years.
