The Wisconsin DNR says the 2025 nine-day gun deer hunt is officially in the books, and early numbers show a season nearly identical to last year. Preliminary license sales came in at just over 790-thousand, down a hair from 2024. More than 550-thousand were gun licenses. The final totals will be released in January. Hunters registered 182-thousand deer during the gun season about 0.8 percent lower than last year. That includes 86-thousand antlered and 96-thousand antlerless deer. When you add in bow and crossbow, the statewide harvest climbs to nearly 295-thousand, slightly ahead of last year. Marquette County led the state with almost eight deer harvested per square mile, followed by strong numbers in Vernon County and several forest management units. The gun hunt ran November 22nd through the 30th, with muzzleloader and antlerless-only seasons now underway. On safety, the DNR says Wisconsin continues its decade-long trend of single-digit firearm incidents and several fatality-free hunts. Hunters are reminded to follow basic firearm safety rules and check county-level harvest data on the DNR website.
