A Pound woman accused in a deadly wrong-way crash has been bound over for trial. Sixty-seven-year-old Cheryl Mitchell waived her preliminary hearing during a court appearance Monday in Brown County. A judge kept her bond at $150,000 cash. She’s scheduled to be arraigned on February 3rd at 8:30 a.m. The crash left one passenger dead, the adult son of two others in the van, who died from his injuries two days later. The other two victims suffered serious injuries. Deputies say Mitchell showed signs of intoxication and admitted drinking wine before driving. Prosecutors say she refused voluntary testing, leading officers to obtain a search warrant for a blood draw. Court records show she has a prior OWI conviction from 1989. Mitchell is charged with homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle with a prior conviction, a Class C felony that carries up to 40 years in prison. She also faces two counts of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle; each Class F felony carries up to 12 years and 6 months. In total, Mitchell could face more than 65 years behind bars if convicted. Her driving privileges would also be revoked. She remains in custody as the case moves forward.
