The Michigan Cannabis Industry Association is asking the Michigan Court of Appeals to look at a lawsuit that seeks to stop a massive tax increase from going into effect at the beginning of the year. The Association says the Court of Claims judge did not make the right call when she issued an opinion that declined to block the 24-percent wholesale tax on marijuana. The lawsuit says lawmakers violated several constitutional provisions when they approved the new tax in October. Legislative leaders say the new tax is fair and legal. The association is asking the Court of Appeals to take up its appeal immediately and rule as soon as possible since the new tax is scheduled to go into effect at the beginning of the year, which is next Thursday.
