Firefighters in the Town of Peshtigo were called out early this morning to battle a house fire. Crews were dispatched just after 2:00 a.m. to a two-story home with reports of flames showing. While units were on the way, dispatchers received word that everyone inside — including pets — had made it out safely. A MABAS working still was requested, bringing in additional departments for support. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire on the outside of the home extending into the second floor. Crews first knocked down flames from the exterior before moving inside to keep the fire from spreading. Officials say most of the damage was concentrated on the second floor, where firefighters encountered heavy fire but were able to bring it under control quickly. Crews then spent several hours on overhaul, searching for and extinguishing hidden hot spots. No injuries were reported to firefighters or the homeowner. Multiple agencies assisted at the scene, including the Marinette Fire Department, Marinette County Dispatch, Marinette EMS, Aurora Bay Area Paramedics, and Wisconsin Public Service. The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
