A candidate for Congress made a stop in Menominee this week while campaigning across Michigan’s First Congressional District. Kyle Blomquist of Iron Mountain is seeking the Democratic nomination to challenge incumbent Republican Congressman Jack Bergman in the upcoming election. During a recent interview, Blomquist spoke about his background and why he decided to enter the race.
Blomquist says many residents across northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula feel disconnected from decision-making in Washington, particularly when it comes to access to basic services like healthcare.
Blomquist also pointed to housing affordability as another issue affecting communities throughout the district.
Blomquist says his campaign will focus on what he calls working-class issues, including healthcare access, housing costs, and economic investment in rural communities. The Iron Mountain architect and small-business owner says he plans to continue traveling across the district ahead of the Democratic primary.
