A Marinette County man is headed toward trial in connection with a deadly overdose case in Peshtigo.
Edward Bell appeared in court Thursday for a pre-trial conference, where a jury was selected for his upcoming trial. Proceedings are scheduled to begin April sixth.
Bell was charged last summer in connection with the overdose death of a man in Peshtigo. He faces several charges, including first-degree reckless homicide, maintaining a drug trafficking place, and three separate drug possession counts.
According to the criminal complaint, police responded June first, twenty twenty-five to a home in Peshtigo after a man was found unresponsive in a bathroom. First responders attempted CPR and administered Narcan before the victim was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
Investigators say the victim’s fiancé told police she had taken him earlier that day to Bell’s residence to obtain Adderall for her. Authorities say phone evidence showed Facebook messages between Bell and the victim discussing what investigators believe were references to Adderall and benzodiazepines.
The complaint says Bell admitted to exchanging drugs with the victim but denied responsibility for the man’s death.
During the investigation, police reportedly searched Bell’s garbage and found used syringes and cut straws containing residue that tested positive for fentanyl. Investigators later searched Bell’s home and say they located marijuana, methamphetamine, and additional drug paraphernalia.
Medical findings cited in the complaint indicate the victim died from a suspected fentanyl overdose, with toxicology results showing the presence of fentanyl and cannabinoids.
