Marinette County leaders are taking action on two major community issues—mental health response and the future of the former UW campus. Both efforts approved during the latest county board meeting. The board signed off on a new Ad Hoc Committee on Mental Health and Crisis Intervention—focused on improving how the community responds to people in crisis.
The goal, early intervention and better coordination between agencies on both sides of the river. Leaders say this is about treatment, not punishment.
The committee is expected to be short-term, working to build a long-term system for care and coordination. At the same meeting, focus also turned to the future of the former UW-Marinette campus. A second resolution creates a Special Committee for UW-Campus Redevelopment, tasked with guiding future use of the property.
Community members are calling for transparency and broader representation as planning moves ahead. Both committees are expected to begin work in the coming weeks, with updates likely heading back to the board later this year.
