The state’s winter disconnection moratorium expires April 15th—meaning customers who have fallen behind could soon face service shutoffs. WPS says the key to avoiding disconnection is simple—reach out. Customers who set up and maintain a payment plan will not be disconnected. The company says disconnection is always a last resort and emphasizes that help is available year-round.
That includes payment plans, budget billing for more predictable monthly costs, and energy assistance programs for qualifying households. WPS also says it’s continuing efforts to keep costs down while preparing for future energy demands. Customers who need help are encouraged to contact the company directly—either online at Wisconsin Public Service dot com, through the WPS mobile app, or by calling 800-450-7260.
At the same time, WPS is warning customers to stay alert for scams. Scammers often target customers around the end of the moratorium—posing as utility workers and threatening immediate shutoff unless payment is made right away. They may demand payment using prepaid cards, apps like Zelle or Venmo, or even cryptocurrency.
WPS says those are red flags. If you ever question a call—hang up and contact the company directly.
Again, the deadline is April 15th—and officials say the sooner you reach out, the more options you’ll have.
