Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller presented the 2022 Annual Report to the County Board at their regular monthly meeting yesterday. Each year, the Sheriff’s office compiles a list of the many things they are involved in over the course of the year. While 2022 presented the Marinette County Sheriff’s office with the continued challenges of staffing shortages and recruitment issues at the same time, jail populations have continued to move upwards even with procedures in place to try to reduce that strain. Sheriff Miller says, “we are continuously faced with challenges. Since 2004, when we opened up our jail and now, our jail population has increased roughly 74 percent.” Jail Administrator Bob Majewski…
Miller says, “we seen approximately 80 deaths that were investigated.”
Miller goes on to say that Fentanyl, Meth, and Heroine, a lot of these drugs, continue to move through our communities and affect us in a lot of different ways. Whether it’s property crimes, overdoses, overdose deaths, and we really need to continue to focus on that as much as possible. In 2022, there were 242 cases that the drug unit forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for charges. A slight decrease from 2021 but more than 2020. Despite these being the Sheriff’s offices’ most prevalent issues, they were able to continue to provide a high-level of service to Marinette County Communities.
