During the Town of Peshtigo’s Ad-Hoc Water Committee meeting last night, the main topic of the evening was the City of Marinette’s Ruekert Mielke Draft from July 9th, 2020. What they discovered from the draft was that either of the alternatives that were recommended in the draft, whether it be wholesale or retail water, would require a lot of negotiations with the City of Peshtigo or the City of Marinette. Town of Peshtigo Chairperson Cindy Boyle says, “after reading it, I’m not surprised why it was never made public but I don’t want to make assumptions.”
Boyle says, “what jumped out at me was alternative number four. Alternative number four was excluded from further evaluation. Alternative number four is to use private special casing deep water supply wells in the Town of Peshtigo.”
Ultimately, the Wisconsin DNR wants to give TYCO the opportunity to put deep wells in with a great deal of oversight and monitoring over extended periods of time to see what happens. After a great deal of discussion of whether the Town of Peshtigo should reach out to the City of Marinette for water resources, the committee decided that they would reach out to City of Marinette Mayor Steve Genisot for a meeting to discuss water options for the Town of Peshtigo.
