Mayor Jean Stegeman is running for re-election in November. Stegeman has been mayor of Menominee for the last twelve-years. Menominee has a unique mayor system, meaning it has a city manager who handles day-to-day duties. The mayor sits on the Council, but has no veto power, and is recognized as head of the city government for all ceremonial purposes. She gets one vote just like the other council members, but gets the last vote. Stegeman says, “there were a lot of people, and I say this most humbly, there were a lot of people, who were asking me to run again. But that alone wouldn’t have convinced me.”
Stegeman says, “after a decade of struggles with a revolving door of managers who were not emotionally invested in Menominee, we are about to turn the corner and I want to see this through.” If re-elected, this will be Stegeman’s Fourth-Term serving the citizens of Menominee. Election Day is November 4th.
