50-year-old Carl James Ruleau, of Stephenson, was sentenced yesterday in the 41st Circuit Court by the Honorable Mary B. Barglind for 2nd degree Home Invasion and Assaulting, resisting, along with obstructing and causing injury to a police officer. On June 16, 2022, Ruleau’s ex-girlfriend notified the policed that he had assaulted her at her home in Stephenson by breaking in through the front door. Once inside, Ruleau knocked her down and pushed her onto a sofa. Ruleau brandished a knife, and at this point 911 was called by the victim’s children. When the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office arrived to investigate, they noticed the knife in Ruleau’s back pocket.Which caused Ruleau to lunge at a deputy, Ruleau hit him in the jaw, and grabbed his service equipment. Another deputy arrived on scene and deployed his taser and delivered body strikes to Ruleau after he threw punches at both deputies. At which point he was arrested. Menominee County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey Rogg says, “I’d like to commend the bravery of the victim in this case for her tremendous courage in coming forward after the incident happened and participating in the court process. In my experience, especially in domestic violence cases, that is very difficult for a lot of women to do.”
Rogg says, “we’ve already had two cases of domestic violence this year. This will make the third.”
Ruleau was sentenced to serve a minimum of 4 1/2 to a maximum of 15 years in prison, with credit for 301 days served.
