The Marinette County District Attorney’s Office says no charges will be filed against an Amberg woman in connection with a shooting on May 29th. When officers arrived William Freed was found shot to death in his home. His wife, Lori Freed, told officers she and her husband had been arguing, and she had gone into her bedroom to listen to music. She said William Freed came into her bedroom with a rifle, which he had never done before. She said she feared for her life and shot her husband with a handgun that she kept in her bedroom. She later told officers that she knew William kept his guns loaded. Officers say there was a loaded .30/.30 rifle partially underneath William Freed’s body with a bullet in the chamber, and the hammer in the firing position.
Based on the results of the investigation, it has been determined that the shooting was justified under Wisconsin Law and no charges will be filed at this time. Law enforcement will continue to investigate any new information that is brought forward.
