The Marinette City Council approved new dump fees for the city dump at Tuesday evenings city council meeting. In 2019, the city charged a $5 fee for each vehicle load of junk, and $5 for a single axle trailer, and $10 for a double axel trailer. The revenue generated from these fees was $18,338. The total disposal cost was $86,072, resulting in a net operating loss of $67,734. In 2022, the city charged a $10 fee for each vehicle of load of junk, and $10 for any size trailer. The revenue generated from these fees was $28,870. The total disposal cost was $84,059, resulting in a net operating loss of $55,189. Alderperson Doug Oitzinger says, “I don’t think we should be charging anything on bags of garbage coming in. It seems to me, the problem that was originally identified by Mr. Keller was these large items and these mega loads. So, let’s deal with that without punishing the residents on the other stuff.”
Department of Public Works Superintendent Pat Carlson says, “the dump trucks that come in are generally used for hauling dirt, rocks, there are a lot of things that can go into a dump trailer. We’ve also had quite a few U-Haul’s come through packed full and we charge them $10.”
While there were several suggested changes to the dump fees here’s what you need to know. Trucks will now be charged $20 loaded with mixed waste, trailer loaded with mixed waste is now $20, $10 for the first large item and then $5 for each additional, Dump Trailers are not allowed – Box Vans are, no charge for recyclables, and users of the dump are required to renew their dump card each year.
