State Representative Dave Prestin led the charge on Wednesday for the House approval of his proposal to remove driving hour restrictions for truck drivers providing aid during disasters or emergencies. The legislation garnered strong bipartisan support. “It’s disheartening that this proposal is even necessary, highlighting the incompetence and excessive regulations pervasive across all levels of government,” said Prestin, R-Cedar River. “These constraints are not only burdensome under normal circumstances but become significant obstacles in emergencies. Ensuring the unimpeded flow of aid, vital resources, and manpower during crises is critical. My bill eliminates the regulatory hurdles truckers face, empowering them to meet urgent needs without fear of repercussions from state or federal authorities.” House Bill 4344 seeks to exempt vehicles involved in disaster relief or state-of-emergency operations from the adverse driving conditions rule, which restricts the number of hours’ individuals can drive within a specified period. The bill now heads to the Senate for further deliberation and consideration.
