A new budget has been approved for Michigan’s K-12 schools. The nearly $22 BILLION budget raises the state’s per-student allowance to $12 THOUSAND — the highest level in Michigan history. It includes more than $300 MILLION to fund grants for smaller class sizes, reading and school infrastructure. School safety and mental health funding were also included. House republicans say the plan loosens restrictions on how schools can USE their funding. The Democrats say the budget could raise costs for families by nearly $900 by cutting free breakfast and lunch program.
