The City of Marinette is facing rising legal costs as ongoing litigation continues. At last night’s City Council meeting, Mayor Steve Genisot provided an update on the situation, noting that the city is currently representing itself in a federal case after its insurance provider, EMC, declined coverage.
Council Member Doug Oitzinger also addressed the council, calling for a correction related to payment procedures.
Because of the Oitzinger case, the city’s insurance premiums have increased by 25 percent, and the deductible has jumped from $3,000 to $25,000. City officials say they are working to manage these new financial challenges as litigation proceeds.
