Puff Cannabis, which says it’s the largest privately owned cannabis company in Michigan, is looking to open a dispensary in Menominee. The company already has its SLU and building permit but is waiting on its license. During public comment at Monday’s City Council meeting, Puff’s attorney Denise Pollicella reminded council members that those permits were granted months before talk of a referendum to cap dispensary licenses.
Vice President Nick [last name] added the company isn’t trying to start a legal fight with the city, saying they are within their rights.
For now, Puff Cannabis’ license is on hold until City Manager Brett Botbyl returns September 2nd.
Botbyl is on a previously planned vacation. Voters overwhelmingly voted on August 5th to limit the number of dispensary licenses int he city to 9. As part of a lawsuit over that election, Judge Mary Barglind ordered the number of licenses to be kept as is for now. Another hearing in that case is scheduled for next week.
