A construction project along the bay in Menominee will temporarily close the Menominee Railroad Dock Boating Access Site near the lighthouse beginning September 8th. The dock and the road leading to it will remain closed until December 15th. That closure also means limited access to the Menominee North Pier Lighthouse. The $1.5 million project will replace pavement, add shoreline armoring, and build a pedestrian trail and bike path along the bay. Officials say the improvements will make the popular recreation spot more accessible and enjoyable for the public. The work is being handled by Barley Excavating and funded by the Michigan DNR waterways program and the city of Menominee. Alternative boating access sites include the Menominee Marina and the Menominee Cemetery site at the west end of 18th Avenue.
