The Wisconsin DNR says funding for its ARPA Well Compensation and Well Abandonment grants has run out. The $5 million program has been taking applications since February 2025. The DNR will keep accepting applications to a waitlist in case more money becomes available—but there’s no guarantee of additional awards, and wait times could be several months. If you want to be considered, don’t start well replacement, treatment, or abandonment work until you get an official award. Costs incurred before an award are not eligible. Applicants will be notified by November 30, 2025, if they won’t be funded. Questions? Contact DNR financial assistance specialist Kelvin Castro at 608-513-7884 or Kelvin.Castro@wisconsin.gov
