Marinette’s streets could soon look a lot friendlier to walkers and cyclists. A new Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan is in motion and city leaders say community voices will drive the design. At a public input meeting this week, transportation planner Brian Carranza with firm Mead and Hunt told residents that this plan won’t just sit on a shelf it’s meant to move.
Carranza says the study includes traffic data, crash analysis, and real-world feedback from cyclists, walkers, and even drivers who share the road. He says the city’s biggest opportunity is connection.
Residents also raised growing concerns over e-bikes on sidewalks — and sidewalk conditions that make walking difficult. Carranza says these comments will directly shape the plan. The plan also considers commuters, seniors, and students who run or walk to school. Planners say the next step is turning all that feedback into a citywide network with projects ready to fund and build by early next year. The survey and mapping tools are still open on the city’s project website. Visit www.marinette.wi.us
