Two men who have represented Menominee County in the Michigan House have announced they are running for State Senate in the 38 District. Current senator Ed McBroom is term-limited and cannot run again. Representative Dave Prestin of Cedar River, a Republican, announced that he will campaign for the seat. He is serving his first term in the House.
McBroom praised Prestin’s record of public service and deep understanding of the U.P.’s needs, saying “I’m proud to support him to replace me as the U.P.’s voice in the State Senate.”
Prestin’s announcement comes as former State Representative Beau LaFave of Iron Mountain, also a Republican, announced he is running for McBroom’s seat as well. LaFave served six years in the House before being term limited in the district that then included Menominee County. LaFave and Prestin join Republican Christopher Reynolds and Democrat Kelli van Ginhoven, who are also running.
