Dorothy’s Haven of Hope in Marinette is launching a new fundraising campaign to keep its homeless shelter operating after key grant funding dried up this year. Board President Dave Anderson says the shelter is facing a serious funding gap after government grants the organization normally relies on were sharply reduced.
Anderson says there’s even a chance the shelter may not receive any of that federal support this cycle.
To close the gap, the shelter is launching a community campaign called “Sponsor a Bed.” Haven of Hope has 13 beds, and each one costs about $1,250 a year to keep the doors open, covering utilities, maintenance, and basic operations. Board President Anderson says every donation helps and community members don’t need to sponsor an entire bed to make a difference.
Donations can be made online at DorothiesHOH.com, by phone at 715-735-3650, or dropped off directly at the shelter. Board members are also available to pick up donations if needed. The shelter is also placing tall, eight-foot “thermometer” signs around the community to track progress. Each level is marked with a small bed icon to show how many have been sponsored.
